Cultivating rich learning experiences, social-emotional development and interest-led exploration by connecting children to nature.
Urban Woods Forest School's nature preschool, also known as a forest school or forest kindergarten (meaning children's garden in German), is a play-based, interest-led and full nature immersion early childhood education program for children aged 2.5 to 6 years. We follow the American Forest Kindergarten Model and The Cedarsong Way Nature Pedagogy for Early Childhood Education. Our approach to an emerging curriculum allows for continuous integration of STEAM learning, ensuring our program is adaptable and beneficial to our mixed age group. We are also place-based, meaning we operate from the same natural environment for all seasons which allows children to experience the day to day changes in nature. We offer a one or two day option, low student/teacher ratio and small class size. Sessions are held at a public park/trail in Fullerton, CA and caregivers are responsible for drop-off and pickup.
Share in the joys of learning and creating in an outdoor environment while connecting with your child. Classes are divided by developmental stage (Birth to 10 years) and vary in length, costs and location. Free-play, exploration, socialization, sensory integration and organic lessons are the focus of each class. Our rhythm is child-led with time always reserved for singing, sharing a snack together and occasionally using natural resources for age appropriate crafts. We also partner with caregivers to discuss and model approaches that support you in becoming an active participant in your child's connection with nature.
